“Follow the Footsteps of Traditional Craftsmen
9th -15th April, 2003
9.00 – 22.00hrs each day @ CMU Art Museum
Nimmanhemin Road – opposite ‘Ton Payom’ Market
A spectacular, traditional ‘Lanna’ procession of artisans, dancers and musicians, culminating in the formal opening ceremony will take place on Friday, 9th April at 5pm in the grounds of Chiang Mai University Art Museum.
Throughout the Festival, there will be a continually changing celebration:
of music; dancing; traditional arts and crafts; insights into the lives of ‘Lanna’ artisans.
Set in a rural ‘village-style’ market, offering food, drink and merchandise in a truly ‘Lanna’ welcoming atmosphere, the Festival will run for the seven days in the lead up to the Buddhist New Year.
Enjoy ‘Lanna’ Arts, crafts and cotton markets, a ‘Lanna’ Cookery competition, a ‘Lanna’ Big Drum competition, and workshops, including textile weaving, ‘Lanna’ and “Thangyin’ lantern making, basket making, pottery and woodcraft - a fun event for everyone. They will be lit, prior to sundown each evening, throughout the Festival.
